  • Bond was set at $2 million Monday for each of two Toledo men charged in a double homicide in north Toledo.

Sidney Slater, Jr., 27, of the 300 block of Sumner Street, and Ricky D. Thompson III, 19, of the 400 block of Troy Street each made their first appearances before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda.

Both were indicted April 13 on two counts of aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault, and one count each of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary for the Jan. 11 shooting deaths of Santiago Rease, 20, and Colleen Stamper, 19.

Prosecutors allege Mr. Slater, Mr. Thompson, and a yet-unidentified third person entered a home at 2826 N. Erie St., where the three people inside were robbed and held at gunpoint. Soon after, Mr. Rease and Ms. Stamper pulled up in a car.

Mr. Rease was shot multiple times after walking toward the house and confronting his assailants. Several shots were fired at the car, at least one of which struck Ms. Stamper. The car then struck a pole.

Judge Zmuda appointed attorney Dave Klucas to represent Mr. Slater and continued Mr. Thompson's arraignment until May 2.
