The Sixth District Court of Appeals of Ohio has upheld the 2017 conviction of a man charged with raping a shackled 13-year-old girl in the basement of a North Toledo home.

Esten Ciboro, 30, formerly of the 820 block of Noble Street, was convicted of two counts of endangering children, two counts of kidnapping, and three counts of rape. In January, 2017, Judge Linda Jennings of Lucas County Common Pleas Court sentenced him to life in prison, with eligibility for parole after 68 years.

Ciboro’s father, Timothy Ciboro, convicted of similar offenses, was sentenced to life in prison without parole, with an additional 71 years tacked on.

Police reported finding leg irons, an overturned bucket she had to sit on, and another bucket with ammonia water for the girl to use as a toilet.

The home was demolished in May.

Esten Ciboro appealed his convictions, claiming the verdicts on two of the three counts of rape were incorrect, and two of those verdicts are not supported by the evidence.

He argues the girl’s testimony “only reported one act of penetration with any degree of specificity,” according to court records.

During testimony, prosecutors asked if Esten Ciboro had vaginal intercourse with her at least 33 times.

The victim said he did, according to court records. Additionally, the victim testified Esten Ciboro made her perform oral sex on him while she folded laundry, and he would give her candy as a reward for sexual acts, including oral sex and intercourse.
