FREMONT — A man who allegedly shot a woman and then himself in May died today of “complications from his injuries,” police said.

Devin Liggins, 23, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. His body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, police said.

Mr. Liggins, on May 30, allegedly shot Chelsea Vasquez, 20, also of Fremont, at 519 Bidwell Ave. about 12:30 p.m. Police said today that Ms. Vasquez was shot once in the chest with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and Mr. Liggins appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound from the same firearm. Officials did not specify where on his body Mr. Liggins was shot.

Police said they interviewed Ms. Vasquez whose story was “consistent with the evidence located at the scene.” Because of his injuries, officers were never able to speak with Mr. Liggins.
