The Toledo Public Board of Education this morning hired Dan Romano, III as the school system s new treasurer.

Mr. Romano, who worked within the treasurer s division of Toledo Public Schools for 15 years, was hired in August as the chief business manager.

He replaces Treasurer James Fortlage, who retired Sept. 1 and is now the chief financial officer of the Cleveland Municipal School District.

Mr. Romano will be paid $119,000 base salary plus $10,000 in annual longevity pay.

The vote to hire Mr. Romano was 4-0. Board member Steven Steel was not present for the 8 a.m. special meeting.

By a similar vote, the board also agreed to retain the school system s interim treasurer, Daniel Griscom, to continue working part-time as interim treasurer for $500 a week until Mr. Romano completes course work needed to reinstate his Ohio treasurer s license.

Mr. Griscom last month accepted the treasurer s job with the Ashland, Ohio, school system.
