A Springfield High School junior was one of 15 students nationwide accepted into the Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom Albert H. Small Student & Teacher Institute.
The institute, part of a nonprofit education organization based in College Park, Md., takes students and teachers from around the nation on trips to explore World War II history in Normandy, France.
Springfield High student Joshua Fox and teacher Andrew Screptock recently returned from their trip, which included delivering a eulogy at the Normandy American Cemetery grave of Jack Runkel, a veteran from Toledo who died in World War II at age 22.
