Rocket Week blasts off downtown on Friday

Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and University of Toledo President Sharon Gaber will raise the UT flag outside One Government Center at 10 a.m. Friday to kick off Rocket Week.

The flags will be flown at other city buildings and parks, and area businesses and fans are urged to do the same.

Rocket Week has a series of events the first week of the academic year leading up to the home-opening football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Glass Bowl. The Mid-American Conference champion Rockets will host Virginia Military Institute.

Other events include a campus pep rally Aug. 29 and downtown rallies on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31, with the marching band performing at various establishments.
