BOWLING GREEN - A Findlay man shot by Fostoria police during a confrontation Oct. 2 was indicted yesterday by a Wood County grand jury.

Kenneth Smith, 28, was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons while under disability. The charges stem from an incident involving Officers Jeff Huffman and Stan Sayre in the parking lot of the Pharm drugstore on North Countyline Street.

The officers reportedly approached Mr. Smith's car because they knew he was wanted on an arrest warrant, but Mr. Smith tried to drive away with one of the officers partially inside the car. The officer fired multiple shots, and Mr. Smith was treated at Toledo Hospital.

According to the indictment, Mr. Smith had a knife with him at the time. He is being held in the Wood County jail.

Officers Huffman and Sayre, who had been on administrative leave following the incident, have been cleared of any misconduct in the incident.
