Get familiar with Joe Reynolds

Rachel Lenzi Rachel Lenzi

Before this week, or maybe even before reading this, you probably weren’t familiar with Joe Reynolds. Or if you were, it wasn’t necessarily because of football. It might have been because you were a fan of high school track in Michigan. Or it was because of a music video he made with teammate Jack Kennedy that went viral and became a part of Michigan’s pregame warmups in 2012.

Get familiar with Reynolds. Because if this season brings surprises — and it likely will, for better or for worse — Reynolds will be one of those unexpected pleasures this season at Michigan.

Reynolds turned down track scholarships in order to walk at Michigan and played in 11 games last season as a reserve wide receiver. The fifth-year senior didn’t get the same attention as Drew Dileo, Jeremy Gallon, and Roy Roundtree, who’s in the final days of training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals.

He’s listed as the No. 2 wide receiver atop Michigan’s depth chart behind Gallon. With an absence of rangy veteran receivers, the 6-foot-1 Reynolds will seize the chance to become a leader for a relatively inexperienced group.

Michigan renewed Reynolds’ one-year scholarship, which he originally earned last season as a walk-on.

Now Reynolds has the best chance to cash in on that investment.
