Making wine in Monroe County
The first white settlers to our region were thrilled to discover native grapes (concord, Niagara, and catawba varieties) growing along the Great Lakes and its tributaries, such as the River Raisin in Monroe. They quickly set about making wine.

Local bankruptcy filings decreasing
Bankruptcy filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo dropped 6 percent in June compared to a year ago, the 14th straight month that filings either declined or were flat, according to figures from the federal clerk of courts office.

Robert M. Lucarelli [1931-2014]; Toledo man had unique knack with upholstery
Robert M. Lucarelli, who grew up with a hammer in his hand, but also showed an early talent for design, and who with his three brothers carried forward the upholstery business their Italian immigrant father founded, died Sunday in the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital. He was 83.
