Hospital volunteers give newborns the gentle personal touch they need
Judy Young, 64, a retired Toledo Public Schools teacher, is one of 23 volunteer cuddlers at Mercy Children’s Hospital. It’s her job to cuddle, feed, and diaper newborn babies who are being looked after and treated in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. On average, Mercy’s Children’s NICU treats about 400 babies every year.
