Extra $3M to treat water; Spring thaw, storm blamed
The cost of treating Toledo’s drinking water this year will rise by additional $3 million for extra chemicals needed to make it safe. “We have gone through this year’s budget,” Public Utilities Director Ed Moore said. “Our biggest problem was the organics in the water. The daily testing for microcystin wasn’t as big a problem.” Mr. Moore said springtime ice flow in the Maumee River churned up “total carbon organics” into Lake Erie.
