Police: Wolf hit, killed by vehicle near Escanaba

ESCANABA, Mich. — Police in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula say a wolf was struck and killed by a vehicle near Escanaba.

The Daily Press reports (http://bit.ly/19EF2Jw ) the roughly 130-pound animal was hit Monday near the Escanaba city limits while it was apparently trying to cross a road.

Police say the driver of the vehicle had minor injuries. The dead wolf was turned over to Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The wolf was hit during the final days of the state’s first wolf hunt in decades.
