Jeff Gordon wins pole for NASCAR's Pure Michigan 400 Sunday

BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Jeff Gordon won the pole today for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

Gordon will start at the top of the field Sunday in the Pure Michigan 400. He set a qualifying-lap speed record of 206.558 miles an hour and was one of 32 drivers to eclipse the 200-mile an hour mark on the 2-mile superspeedway.

Joey Logano (206.381) qualified second and Carl Edwards (206.115) qualified third.

Gordon's record lap speed was more than two mph faster than Kevin Harvick's qualifying record at MIS. Harvick set the previous qualifying record of 204.557 miles an hour in June for the Quicken Loans 400.

The Pure Michigan 400 is at 1 p.m. Sunday at MIS.
