To the editor: Universal pre-K needs to happen

1/12/2018

On Dec. 29-31, The Blade had editorials on how “universal preschool could make it possible for poor children to catch up, to excel in school, to go to college and compete in life.” One editorial also told of how well the Tulsa Program was working.

We can do this, and we must do this. We must find the funds, the right staff, the right teachers, and a champion for the cause. Most of all, it must be something that the city of Toledo can get behind.

Let’s get this done.

Oil and gas firms destroying climate

There were $306 billion in economic losses from climate disasters last year.

There were historically bad hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and drought that cost Americans tax money and higher insurance costs.

The oil and gas industry will get increased tax breaks for 2018, and we will get the costs associated with global warming.

New York City has filed a lawsuit for reimbursement for climate change damages caused by big oil. It is time our federal government takes notice.

Earmarks not right solution

I have been a Trump supporter from the beginning, and I still am.

But I wish someone would tell him that encouraging Congress to bring back earmarks is not draining the swamp. It’s feeding the alligators.

Trump the best at something

It’s official. According to the Washington Post, since his inauguration, the President has told more than 2,000 lies to the public.

We all wanted a world leader, and now we have one.
