To the editor: Where are you, Gov. Kasich?

Ohio Gov. John Kasich
Ohio Gov. John Kasich

On Monday, Feb. 26, governors from 35 states met with President Trump to discuss the critical issue of school safety. Notably absent was Gov. John Kasich. Once again, our governor did not participate in a key White House meeting.

So where was Gov. Kasich?

EDITORIAL: Kasich’s choice

He chose to appear on national talk shows over the weekend. As a result, Ohio was not represented in sharing initiatives to keep school children safe.

What are you wearing?

An independent must choose between two paths. Taking the middle road only serves to weaken the candidate who is closer to your own ideology. I made the wrong choice.

My initial reaction was that Donald Trump’s election was the biggest joke in history. I described him as an arrogant, megalomaniacal bully and a buffoon. I still do. However, what I originally saw as a Hitler in Gandhi’s clothing, I now see as a Gandhi in Don Rickles’ clothing.

Perhaps those “warts” I described are superficial. And his many blatant missteps so far are just more warts. And to focus on them — as a majority are wont to do because it serves their political agenda — is to miss the big picture.

I now liken it to looking at Cindy Crawford and seeing only the mole. And the beauty we have been ignoring is that of a being with drive and vision who has not been brought up through, and indoctrinated by, a corrupt political machine. Nor is he a puppet to selfish interest groups. That big picture is huge.

And let’s drop the conspiracy theories. In fact, those “crazies” can now drop the word “theories,” come out of the closet, and take center stage without fear of being burned at the stake. The recent memo controversies have proven their credibility.

Maybe it would serve us well to unite for a change behind an imperfect but well-meaning president — warts and all — who will not kowtow to any evil empire, foreign or domestic. I am sure he is holding even more trump cards he has yet to play.

Or we could just continue bickering about warts and continue wearing our sheep’s clothing.
