In a spring sports season that has already been continuously interrupted by rain, the latest victim was Sunday’s City League baseball playoff semifinals at Scott Park.

Top-seeded St. John’s Jesuit (22-5, 10-0 CL), coming off a heartbreaking, 12-inning, 1-0 loss to Perrysburg in Friday’s Division I regional semifinals, continued its scoring drought against Start on Sunday.

St. John’s was trailing the fourth-seeded Spartans 5-0 with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Titans’ Nate Pearson was at bat with a 3-0 count against Start ace Andrew Lepiarz when heavy rains hit and forced the game to be suspended.

Start (14-11, 7-3) had five hits to grab a 4-0 lead in the second inning against Titans starting pitcher Jimmy Scott.

The Spartans then added a run in the top of the sixth.

The game is scheduled to resume on Monday at 1 p.m. at Scott Park.

Sunday’s second scheduled semifinal — second-seeded Whitmer (15-12, 8-2) third-seeded Clay (17-10, 8-2), will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the St. John’s-Start contest.

The championship game has been moved to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Park.
