A day after he was suspended from playing in the Michigan football team's bowl game on Jan. 1, Michigan cornerback J.T. Floyd today issued a statement regarding his suspension.

In the statement, Floyd apologized to teammates, to his family and to the University of Michigan for what he called “a poor decision I made this past weekend” that resulted in his suspension.

"Although I looked forward to finishing my college football career playing against South Carolina in the Outback Bowl, I fully understand the decision Coach Hoke had to make by suspending me from the bowl game," Floyd wrote in the statement, originally released to ESPN.

Floyd, punter Will Hagerup and linebacker Brandin Hawthorne have been suspended for the Outback Bowl for what the Michigan athletic department said was a violation of team rules. Floyd, however, did not specify the reason his suspension in the five-paragraph statement.
