St. Cloud State defeats Notre Dame

The St. Cloud State hockey team defeated Notre Dame 5-1 in the first NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal game at the Huntington Center today.

The Huskies scored three goals in a dominating second period, with Joey Benik, Cory Thorson and Jonny Brodzinski getting the goals. Benik also scored in the third, while Ben Hanowski added a goal in the first period.

Notre Dame's lone goal was a short-handed tally by Mike Voran at 7:44 of the third period.

Notre Dame goalie Steven Summerhays has 14 saves through two periods and was replaced by Mike Johnson in the third. Johnson finished with four saves, while St. Cloud State goalie Ryan Faragher stopped 17 shots.

 

After 2nd Period:

After 1st Period:
St. Cloud State leads Notre Dame 1-0 after the first period of the NCAA hockey Midwest Regional semifinal at the Huntington Center today.

The Huskies' Ben Hanowski scored the only goal of the period on a rebound at the 11:32 mark.

The two goalies -- Notre Dame's Steven Summerhays and St. Cloud State's Ryan Faragher -- each made 10 saves.
