ANN ARBOR — The Michigan athletic department said Monday that redshirt sophomore Russell Bellomy will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Bellomy, a quarterback, sustained the injury during practice on Friday. He’s the second Michigan football player this spring to sustain this kind of injury — Jake Ryan is also out indefinitely after tearing his ACL during spring practices. Ryan underwent surgery Thursday to repair the ACL tear.

Bellomy was expected to back up Devin Gardner this fall. In five games in 2012, Bellomy completed 4 of 21 passes for 46 yards and was intercepted four times.

CLEVELAND — The Browns have discarded another quarterback. Colt McCoy will start over as a backup in San Francisco.

McCoy, who became expendable when Cleveland signed veteran free agent quarterback Jason Campbell last week, was traded Monday to the San Francisco 49ers for two draft picks.

The Browns confirmed the deal on the same day new coach Rob Chudzinski welcomed more than 60 players — including McCoy — for the start of the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program.

The Browns only said they received two “undisclosed” draft choices, but a person familiar with the deal said the team got a fifth and seventh-round pick in this month’s NFL draft in exchange for McCoy and Cleveland’s sixth-round pick.

■ ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Oakland Raiders acquired Seattle backup Matt Flynn on Monday for draft picks, signaling an end to Carson Palmer's brief tenure as starter in Oakland.

Fox Sports reported Palmer was expected to be dealt to Arizona.

The Raiders paid a hefty price when they acquired Palmer from Cincinnati midway through the 2011 season, trading a 2012 first-round draft pick and 2013 second-rounder for the former Pro Bowler.

Oakland will send a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional pick in 2015 to Seattle for Flynn.
