James Kelly averaged a team-high 17.9 points and 10 rebounds in helping lead Owens Community College to the NJCAA Division II tournament semifinals.
From Ann Arbor to South Beach, with a stopover in Perrysburg in between.
That’s the path less traveled Owens Community College star James Kelly will take to the top level of college basketball.
Kelly announced he will play next season at the University of Miami — a once-dormant program that streaked to national prominence this year under former Bowling Green State University coach Jim Larranga.
"Just verbally committed to @CanesHoops i will be a hurricane next season #Canes #LETSGOCANES #Miami #MiamiMadness," Kelly posted on Twitter.
The 6-foot-7, 238-pound Kelly spent two seasons at Owens after only beginning to play organized basketball midway through his junior year at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. This season, the forward averaged a team-high 17.9 points and 10 rebounds in helping lead the Express to the NJCAA Division II tournament semifinals.
