DETROIT -- Jordin Tootoo's goal less than six minutes into the third period helped lift the Red Wings to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings tonight at Joe Louis Arena - and lifted the Red Wings back into the top eight in the Western Conference standings.
Tootoo tipped Patrick Eaves' shot past Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick at 5:42 of the third to break a 1-1 tie. Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen also scored for the Red Wings, while Kyle Clifford scored for the Kings.
Detroit is eighth in the Western Conference with 52 points, one point behind seventh-place Minnesota and one ahead of ninth-place Columbus, which was idle tonight.
The Red Wings host Nashville in their regular-season home finale at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Joe Louis Arena, then close the regular season Saturday at Dallas.
