GWINNETT, Ga. — Toledo’s Jose Alvarez pitched seven solid innings for the Mud Hens but Gwinnett’s pitchers combined to strike out nine batters and limit the Hens to five hits in a 3-2 loss on Friday.

It was the fourth straight loss for Toledo (15-34) after winning five of their previous seven contests.

Alvarez limited Gwinnett (19-30) to four hits with two walks and three strikeouts but Braves’ starter Brandon Beachy combined with three releivers to limit Toledo to five hits.

The Hens did have base runners though, walking six times during the game.

Gwinnett got on the board in the first inning with Jose Constanza scoring during a double-play ball hit by Kevin Russo.

The Hens tied the game in the top of the second as Beachy uncorked a wild pitch during Quintin Berry’s at-bat, scoring Nick Castellanos (2-for-4, double).

Toledo took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Danny Dorn hit his ninth home run of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, Gwinnett tied the game on a Joe Leonard double. He scored when Paul Hanish drove him in during the next at-bat.

Pat Eagan got his first save of the season, walking one and striking out Berry in the ninth.
