Former Ohio State linebacker Perkins arrested in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN — Former Ohio State linebacker David Perkins has found his football options narrowed after he was arrested during a visit to Bowling Green last weekend.

Perkins allegedly broke into a car, then was found by police bloodied and apparently drunk attempting to enter a female stranger's home at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, according to an incident report. He was charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, criminal damaging, and underage drinking.

Perkins, 20, who recently left OSU and planned to transfer, is scheduled to appear in Bowling Green Municipal Court on June 10.

Bowling Green State University and Toledo were among the programs believed to be interested in the former four-star prospect. But a BGSU spokesman said Falcons coaches are no longer actively recruiting Perkins. Toledo also backed off.

It is unknown whether Perkins was on a visit to the BGSU football program. Perkins did not return a phone and email message.

Police responded to a 911 call early Saturday morning from a 22-year-old woman who claimed a man was trying to gain entry into her Pike Street home.

According to the report, the woman said Perkins repeatedly shouted, "Let me in," and "Answer me now," then briefly left and headed for a silver Honda Civic in a nearby parking lot. Perkins allegedly smashed the driver's side window and got in the car, which police later found smeared with blood. The owner, like the woman at the home, said she did not know Perkins.

Police came upon Perkins back on the woman's front porch, apparently intoxicated, with "blood all over his hands and clothes," "wet pants as if he had urinated on himself," and large cuts on his right wrist. When an officer asked Perkins why he was at the home, the player replied, "I called coach and he said to go to her house."

Perkins was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Wood County Hospital before he was booked.

A South Bend, Ind., native, Perkins played nine games as a freshman for the Buckeyes, mostly on special teams.
