High winds delays start of Cabela’s Lake Erie walleye tournament to Saturday
6/14/2013PORT CLINTON – A strong wind out of the north gusting to 20 knots produced waves of two-to-four feet and forced the postponement of the scheduled Friday start of the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour fishing tournament on Lake Erie.
The two-day tournament, which has attracted about 130 entries from at least 15 states and Ontario, will now take place on Saturday and Sunday. The wind is expected to swing around to the southwest by Saturday morning and diminish to 10 knots or less, with waves less than two feet.
The schedule for the tournament calls for the start to take place at safe light each morning from the West Harbor Public Ramp on Catawba Island. The tournament anglers are due back for the weigh-in at 3 p.m. both days, with that weigh-in held at Waterworks Park in downtown Port Clinton.
