Ottawa Hills grad Geiger has court date
8/31/2013Michael Geiger, a freshman on the Michigan State football team and an Ottawa Hills graduate, is scheduled to appear in court after he was cited last weekend for underage alcohol consumption.
Geiger, 18, was cited on the morning of Aug. 24 when he and a friend were spotted by Toledo Police officer David Ranazzi on the 2700 block of Talmadge Road.
In the police report, dated Aug. 24, Ranazzi wrote that he “saw Geiger helping his friend in the street. When I stopped to check on them, they both admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages.”
Underage consumption is a first-degree misdemeanor in Toledo for which conviction is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, up to six months in jail, or both.
Geiger received a summons, in lieu of an arrest. He is scheduled to appear before Toledo Municipal Court Judge Tim Kuhlman on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m., court records show.
Geiger is a kicker for Michigan State, which opened the season Friday against Western Michigan in East Lansing, Mich. Rivals.com rated Geiger as the nation's No. 1 kicker in the class of 2013, and he was an Associated Press Division VI All-Ohio selection.
Earlier this week, Geiger was listed as the No. 2 kicker on Michigan State’s depth chart, behind senior Kevin Muma.
