OSU, UM, BG going bowling; Toledo snubbed

  • Buckeyes forced to regroup

A day later, the Ohio State football team stopped to smell the roses. Just not the ones they hoped. OSU will play Clemson in the Orange Bowl and — make no mistake — it is a consolation prize. The Buckeyes left Lucas Oil Stadium dazed and devastated after Saturday night’s Big Ten championship stunner, their season falling one game short of a trip to the national title game at the Rose Bowl.

    Wolverines heading west for bowl

Pack warm-weather clothing, drink plenty of water, and don’t forget the blue cheese dressing. Get a pregame nap in, as well. The Michigan football team will head to Arizona for the holidays, and for a late-night bowl game. The Wolverines will face Kansas State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl at 10:15 p.m. Dec. 28 in Tempe, Ariz. The pairing in the desert is one of the unlikelier ones.

BG earns return trip to Detroit

When the Bowling Green State University football team found out its bowl destination Sunday, Falcon fans were excited. And when BG learned its opponent might be Pittsburgh, Matt Johnson was especially excited. The Falcons will play Pittsburgh in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Dec. 26 at Ford Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl will be the 11th bowl game in program history.

Rockets snubbed in favor of Bobcats

Five times this season University of Toledo coach Matt Campbell opened a news conference with praise for an opponent who had just beaten his football team. It’s unclear who dealt the Rockets their latest defeat — a bowl game snub — but neither Campbell nor his boss was in a complimentary mood Sunday when discussing it. The Rockets are done playing games until next fall.
