The Walleye came out of the gate strong and then had a letdown in the second period that led to a 3-2 loss to Fort Wayne tonight.

Toledo took an early 1-0 lead but the Komets scored the next three goals before a crowd of 5,860 at the Huntington Center.

The Walleye (10-18-3) have lost two in a row and three of their last four games.

Toledo's David Gilbert tallied the game's first goal. Gilbert tipped in a shot from the point by Max Nicastro. Gilbert's eighth of the season came 5:43 into the contest.

Gilbert now has three goals and two assists in four games versus Fort Wayne.

Toledo peppered the Komets' net with 14 shots in the first period, including three on a power play.

But Fort Wayne's Chris Auger tied the game up at 1 just 48 seconds into the second period with a power play goal. The Komets started the second period on a power play after Emerson Clark was called for a double minor roughing penalty at the end of the first period.

Midway through the second period, Christian Ouellet gave the Komets a 2-1 lead as the puck was knocked around in front of the net and found its way in.

At the end of the second period Toledo was down 2-1 and the Komets also led 27-23 in shots in a period they controlled .

Fort Wayne went up 3-1 on a shot Toledo goalie Mac Carruth should have stopped. Carruth was on his knees too long as the Komets had sustained pressure and Jace Coyle converted with 16:25 left.

Toledo pulled back within one on Richard Nedomlel's goal with 6:04 left in the game.

The Walleye then had a bevy of chances on late power play but could not tie it. Toledo then pulled Carruth with 1:30 left but still could not even the game.

Carruth, who started in Toledo's last game on Saturday, made 32 saves.

Toledo plays at Wheeling on Saturday night before retuning home on Sunday for a rematch against the Nailers.
