BOWLING GREEN — New Bowling Green State University football coach Dino Babers announced the majority of his coaching staff for next season on Tuesday.

Seven coaches — Tom Freeman, Sterlin Gilbert, Sean Lewis, Mike Lynch, Tom Kaufman, Matt Mattox and Kim McCloud — were named to the staff after spending last season with Babers at Eastern Illinois.

An eighth assistant, Nick Monroe, was retained from the staff of Dave Clawson.

Gilbert and Mattox were named co-offensive coordinators for the Falcons. Gilbert, who was named the Football Championship Series coordinator of the year by FootballScoop.com, also will coach the quarterbacks while Mattox will coach the offensive line.

Lynch will coach running backs while Lewis is listed as BG’s inside wide receivers coach. McCloud will serve as defensive coordinator. Kaufman will serve as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach. Monroe remains the secondary coach while Freeman will coach the defensive line.

One assistant coaching position remains open after Larry McDaniel, another holdover from Clawson’s Bowling Green staff, became the defensive line coach at his alma mater, Indiana.

Babers named Sean Edinger the school’s director of strength and conditioning and Roy Wittke as director of football operations. Both followed Babers from EIU.
