Walleye roster to get influx of AHL talent
1/28/2014The Toledo Walleye's roster will look much different when they play at Evansville today.
The team will have forwards Travis Novak and Alden Hirschfeld back after they returned on Tuesday from call ups to the American Hockey League. Novak and Hirschfeld had been playing with Toledo's AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids also reassigned goaltender Jared Coreau back to Toledo.
Also on Tuesday, the Walleye traded forward Daniel Koger to Elmira of the ECHL for future considerations.
The team also traded defenseman Joe Sova to Kalamazoo for future considerations.
With the moves, the organization released goaltender Brooks Ostergard.
Novak appeared in three games last weekend with the Griffins, collecting a goal and an assist. In 25 games this year with Toledo, he is second on the team in scoring with 23 points (8 G, 15 A).
Hirschfeld, a Sylvania native, collected one assist in two games with Grand Rapids. He has appeared in 35 games this year with Toledo and has scored five goals with 17 assists, which is the third most points on the team.
Coreau returns to Toledo where he went 1-5-3 earlier this season with a 4.42 goals-against average and a .865 save percentage. In five appearances with the Griffins, the rookie goaltender posted a record of 0-4-0 and a 4.39 GAA.
Koger played in 17 games for the Walleye and had four goals and five assists. Sova had two goals and seven assists in 23 contests for Toledo. Ostergard was Toledo’s backup goaltender this weekend and did not appear in a game.
After playing at Evansville, Toledo will host Cincinnati on Friday.
