Owens women come up short in attempt to break school mark

COLUMBUS — Despite a 23-point performance from Kamilah Carter, the No. 6 Owens Community College’s women's basketball team couldn't set a school record winning streak as Columbus State utilized a 12-2 run to end the game for a 73-67 victory.

The game was back-and-forth up until 7:58 left in the first half when the Cougars started to pull away. The Express trailed 38-28 at half.

Owens had tied a school mark with 18 consecutive wins.

LaKayra Carlisle helped the Express (18-2, 4-1 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference) with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

OWENS CC 82, COLUMBUS STATE 76

COLUMBUS — Bikramjit Gill had 12 points and 21 rebounds to lead the No. 15-ranked Express men's basketball team to a road win over Columbus State.

Owens trailed 63-52 with 9:01 remaining after Columbus State's Jordan Marrow nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing. From there, John Murry hit three straight baskets in the paint to start the comeback.

Murry finished with 22 points for Owens (18-4, 5-0 OCCAC) while Andy Bachman had 21.

Marrow led Columbus State with 19 points.
