INDIANAPOLIS — James McCann had three hits and five RBIs to lead the Mud Hens to a 9-4 victory Tuesday night over Indianapolis.

McCann hit a three-run homer in the fifth and a two-run single in the sixth as Toledo won its third straight game and moved into a tie with the Indians for second place in the International League’s West Division.

The Hens broke on top with a first-inning run against Indianapolis starter Gerrit Cole, who is on a rehab start from Pittsburgh. Tyler Collins opened the game with a single, moved to second on a one-out groundout by Jordan Lennerton, then scored on a double by Mike Hessman.

A four-run fifth-inning rally included another Hessman double, which scored one run, and McCann’s home run to left, his third homer of the season.

In the sixth, Collins singled and Lennerton doubled to set the stage for McCann, who lined a two-out, two-run single.

Toledo starter Mike Belfiore held the Indians in check until the sixth, when the Hens had built a 7-0 lead. Belfiore gave up singles by Jose Tabata and Andrew Lambo, followed by a home run by Brent Morel, his fourth of the year.

The Hens added two insurance runs in the eighth off Indians reliever Wirfin Obispo. He walked two batters before a Hernan Perez single brought home one run, and Hessman hit into a bases-loaded double play that scored the other.

McCann and Lennerton each had three hits to pace a 15-hit attack, while Collins, Perez, and Hessman had two hits apiece.

Indianapolis got a run in the eighth when Toledo reliever Melvin Mercedes gave up three singles, the last off the bat of Matt Hague to score Tabata.

The Mud Hens will have today off before beginning a 10-game homestand Thursday against Lehigh Valley at Fifth Third Field.
