OSU's Miller out for the year
8/19/2014COLUMBUS — Ohio State's biggest fear this season has become a reality.
Star quarterback Braxton Miller is out for the season after reinjuring his surgically repaired shoulder in practice on Monday, the school confirmed.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Braxton and his family,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said in a release. “This is an unfortunate injury to a young man who means so much to this program and to Buckeye nation.”
“I love Ohio State and Buckeye nation, and my goal is to come back from this injury stronger and better than ever,” Miller said. “I am on course to graduate in December and I want to attend graduate school, and then return to lead the Buckeyes next season. In the meantime, I want to give all the support I can to my coaches and teammates as they chase a championship this season.”
Miller was throwing a routine pass during a non-contact drill in practice when he went down with pain in his shoulder. He was scheduled for an MRI this morning.
The injury deals a major hit to the fifth-ranked Buckeyes' national title hopes and likely elevates redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett as the starting quarterback. Miller, the two-time reigning Big Ten MVP, underwent surgery for a partially torn labrum in February.
