No opponent too small for Falcons

Winners of six games over the last two-plus seasons, Bowling Green football has no leeway to overlook any opponent, even one from the smaller Football Championship Subdivision.

So when the Falcons (0-2) host Eastern Kentucky (1-1), the worst thing they can do is not take the Colonels seriously. The key for Saturday’s will be BGSU staying focused while playing a team everyone says they should beat.

This will be a serious step down in competition for the Falcons — at least on paper — after facing Oregon and Maryland in the first two weeks of the season. BG gave up 103 points in those two games.

However, the Colonels aren’t to be taken lightly. They’ve put some scares into FBS program, including a win over another Mid-American Conference school as recently as 2014, over Miami, Ohio.

It could be hard for the Falcons to view the Colonels in the same light as the Ducks and Terrapins. Yes, the Falcons have given up more than 600 rushing yards in two games and the Colonels have gained nearly as much on the ground, and while the competition and talent have been different, numbers are still concrete.

If the Falcons need any motivation for Saturday’s game, they only need to look to last year, when they lost to South Dakota, another FCS opponent.

Until the Falcons start producing more wins, no opponent is too small, no win is too insignificant for them to focus on.
