Woodside, Adeniyi show off skills at UT Pro Day

Former University of Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside was back in Toledo for his pro day workout Monday, along with several other former Rockets.

In front of scouts representing teams from across the NFL, Woodside put on a solid display throwing the football.

After posting good numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month in Indianapolis, Woodside chose not to run the 40-yard dash or participate in any of the other drills aside from his passing session.

“It felt great,” Woodside said. “It was good to be back out here with some of the guys. Some of the players who were receivers with me in the past volunteered to come out and run routes for me. I really appreciate that from them.”

At the combine, Woodisde ran a 4.79-second 40-yard dash, the fifth fastest time among quarterbacks. He also was in the top three among quarterbacks in the 3-cone drill, the 20-yard shuttle run, and the 60-yard shuttle run.

“It was a once in a lifetime experience,” Woodside said. “I learned a lot. It was grueling week, but I think I performed really well on Saturday and in the meetings, so I think I set myself up pretty well.”

Aside from Woodside, former Toledo defensive end Ola Adeniyi has a chance to be drafted as well. He has been training at EXOS in San Diego preparing for his chance to play in the NFL.

At the combine, Adeniyi recorded a 4.83 40-yard dash. Each scout in attendance Monday recorded their own times, so there was no official time for the 40. However, Adeniyi said he heard from multiple people he improved his time from the combine.

“I think I definitely did improve it a little bit,” Adeniyi said. “My hamstring was tweaked a little bit at the combine. I just kind of tweaked it out here today, so I only did one rep of it. But from what I heard, I did way better in the 40.”

Adeniyi said watching guys like Kareem Hunt, Michael Roberts, and Treyvon Hester get drafted last year, serves as proof Toledo can produce talent that can play at the next level.

“It doesn’t matter where you are from, they will find you,” Adeniyi said. “You had three guys [from Toledo] get drafted. You can’t really say anything about that. We won the MAC championship this year. So just looking at things like that you can’t ignore us now. Playing next to Treyvon Hester for a whole season was pretty impressive, and I know how good he is. Him living out his dream gave me some motivation to do the same.”

Terry Swanson, Toledo’s starting running back in 2017, also participated, as did linemen Elijah Nkansah and Brant Weiss, cornerback Trevon Mathis, linebacker Ja’Wuan Woodley, and receiver Darryl Richards.

“I feel like it went pretty well,” Swanson said. “I don’t think a lot of people expected me to put up a lot of numbers, but I’m definitely glad I was able to show people what I can do.”

Swanson would welcome any opportunity to play at the next level.

“It would be a dream come true,” Swanson said. “It’s something I dreamed of as a kid and it would definitely be a welcome opportunity for me.”
