City League roundup: St. John's tops Grove City 7-6

St. John's Jesuit took advantage of a crucial mistake by Grove City last night for a 7-6 win at Start.

Leading 7-0 on a 26-yard touchdown run by sophomore Sam Kettinger, his only run of the game, and Nathan Parseghian's extra point, St. John's watched Josh Goody score on a seven-yard pass from Josh Worthington with about seven minutes to play.

On the Grove City PAT attempt, the snap sailed over the kicker's head and was recovered by St. John's Don Hickey.

Jay Wheeler carried the brunt of the Titans' rushing with 119 yards on 33 lugs.

For the game, the Titans rushed for 191 yards and passed for 58. Grove City had 151 yards rushing and 63 passing and fumbled twice, losing both.

Both teams are 2-1.

Alex Reese ran for one touchdown and threw for two others to pace Maumee.

Reese hit Sean Haulpin for 49 yards and Corey Trodaugh for 30 yards. He ran 15 yards for a score.

Reese hit 7 of 14 passes for 157 yards and ran 57 yards on nine carries.

Chris Jones paced Maumee with 122 yards on 24 carries and a 26-yard TD.

Antwan Harvin paced Bowsher with 106 yards on 26 carries. He scored from a yard out.

Perrysburg pounded the ball on the ground throughout the game, piling up 384 yards rushing to a mere 4 in the air.

Brad Kilgore (10 and 2 yards) and Steve Calevero (5 and 35 yards) scored two touchdowns apiece for the Yellow Jackets.

Calevero paced Perrysburg (1-2) with 135 yards on 20 carries.

Larry Gillhouse put Waite (0-3) on the scoreboard with a 52-yard run in the second quarter. Carl Markowski's 16-yard TD run for the Indians made it a 14-12 game at halftime.

Gillhouse rambled for 129 yards on 12 carries.

The Wildcats scored 23 straight points, including 13 in a span of 17 seconds in the second quarter to knock off the Rams on the road.

Evan Lawrence scored two TDs for the Wildcats, while Tom Tomassini led all runners with 102 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams' Fred Davis accounted for 203 yards of total offense and both scores, including a 90-yard punt return.

Kelly Rowe led Southview by passing for 168 yards (11 of 16) and running for 112 on 23 carries and accounting for four touchdowns.

Rowe hit TD passes of 40 yards to Mike Norris and 24 to Aaron Waldie. Rowe ran 30 and 3 yards for scores as well.

Southview's other score came on a 50-yard interception return by Bubba Valdez.

Billy Collins paced Start by hitting 17 of 33 passes for 322 yards and three TDs - 43 yards to Asante White, 40 yards to Jared Hunter and 28 yards to Sherone White. Asante White had six receptions for 148 yards.

Start's other score came on a 23-yard run by Roland Quinn.

LIMA - Lima Senior got by Scott when James Henderson hit Jermaine Marks with a 24-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter.

Kenneth Davis paced Scott by throwing two TD passes - 13 yards each to Jonathan Goldsmith and John Jackson - and running 11 yards for another touchdown.

Scott also scored on a five-yard run by Jamal Brooks.

DAYTON - Emite Davis led Libbey in a losing cause with 93 yards on 19 carries and a 12-yard TD run. The Cowboys' other score came on a 25-yard pass from Gordon Hagen to Jacoba Clark.

The Rangers punted just once and churned up 371 yards of offense, while holding the Polar Bears to 199.

Northwood quarterback Matt Donegan threw four completions and all went for scores. Josh Grigson caught two TD strikes. Chad Domanski had a scoring catch and a touchdown run.

Woodward's Khalsoni Rice rushed for 168 yards and two scores.
