UT picked to win MAC West in pre-season poll

DETROIT -- The University of Toledo football team was picked to win the West Division of the Mid-American Conference in the league's pre-season poll announced today.

The Rockets received seven of a possible 17 first-place votes in the media poll and 87 total points to narrowly edge returning champ Northern Illinois, which garnered five first-place votes and 83 total. Western Michigan was third with four first-place votes and 79 total, followed by Ball State (42 points), Eastern Michigan (34 points) and Central Michigan (one first-place vote, 32 points).

The Bowling Green State University football team was picked to finish second in the East Division behind defending champ Ohio, which received all 17 first-place votes and 119 total. The Falcons collected 91 points, followed by Miami (84), Kent State (76), Buffalo (52), Akron (31) and new MAC member Massachusetts (23).

Ohio received five votes to win the MAC Championship Game, which will be played at Ford Field in Detroit Friday, Nov. 30, while Toledo got three votes and Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Central Michigan each had one.
