Central strikes back

Before Friday night’s Three Rivers Athletic Conference football showdown against visiting Whitmer, Central Catholic senior quarterback DeShone Kizer already had a state championship under his belt and a college scholarship lined up with Notre Dame.

He did not, however, have a defining individual moment to his high school football career.

Now he has one.

It came 3 minutes, 39 seconds into the third quarter, and it ultimately gave his Fighting Irish a 21-14 victory on a rainy night in front of a crowd of more than 7,000 at Gallagher Stadium.

Southview makes most of turnovers

Springfield let a chance at knocking off Northern Lakes League favorite Southview slip away during the second half of Friday night's league-opening matchup on the Blue Devils' home field.

A tightly played contest over nearly three quarters unraveled for the Blue Devils, who committed three second-half turnovers (two fumbles and an interception) that ultimately led to Southview pulling out a 28-14 victory.

Yellow Jackets cruise to victory over Bobcats

BOWLING GREEN — In his first rushing attempt since separating his shoulder three weeks ago, Perrysburg’s Mark Delas went 46 yards for a touchdown through a wet, grassy field.

It was that kind of night for the Yellow Jackets, who routed Bowling Green 42-2 Friday night in a Northern Lakes League football game.

Balanced attack carries Lake

MILLBURY — An ugly, rain-soaked night was a thing of beauty for Lake as the Flyers poured the points on visiting Otsego on Friday.

Lake led just 10-0 at the half, but quickly put it out of reach with 28 instant points in the third quarter. The Flyers remained undefeated (4-0) with a 38-0 shutout of Otsego (2-2) in an Northern Buckeye Conference opener.
