Injuries pile up for Wolverines

Michigan wide receiver Nico Collins has provided some big play capability for the Wolverines offense.

ANN ARBOR — With one blowout behind them and another possibly on tap — Michigan is favored by five touchdowns against SMU — the biggest concern for the Wolverines is injuries.

Receiver Tarik Black already was ruled out indefinitely after suffering an injury to his right foot during the preseason. Now, Michigan is without defensive linemen Aubrey Solomon and Lawrence Marshall.

Coach Jim Harbaugh did not provide an update on their status Monday. He commented after UM’s 49-3 win Saturday against Western Michigan they would be back “sooner than later.” The Michigan Insider reported Solomon underwent knee surgery.

Bryan Mone and Carlo Kemp started at defensive tackle against the Broncos.

There remains no timetable on Black’s return, according to Harbaugh. In an Instagram post Saturday by Donovan Peoples-Jones, Black could be seen with a boot on his right foot.

“As of right now, as you know, he did have surgery on his foot,” Harbaugh said. “Everything is rehab right now and healing.”

Nico Collins has emerged as a big-play threat in Black’s absence, leading the team with 110 yards receiving through two games. He has catches of 52 and 44 yards and one touchdown. Peoples-Jones has a team-high 10 receptions.
