Walleye rout Cyclones on the road

CINCINNATI — Mike Borkowski’s second goal of the game broke a 2-2 tie Friday as the Toledo Walleye scored four unanswered goals in the final 38 minutes, 48 seconds of regulation in a 6-2 victory against the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena.

Borkowski’s second goal of the game at the 11:12 mark of the second period put Toledo (10-2-0-2) up 3-2. In the third, when A.J. Jenks registered back-to-back goals and Zach Nastasiuk closed out the scoring.

Borkowski had a four-point game, adding two assists. Shane Berschbach also had three assists in the win for the Walleye, their fourth in a row.

Borkowski’s first goal of the night was a shorthanded one in the first. The other five goals by Toledo were on the power play.

Pat Nagle registered the win with 13 saves for Toledo, while Jason Kasdorf had 21 stops for the Cyclones (7-4-0-1).

The teams meet again at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the Huntington Center.

Also the team lost rookie goaltender Matej Machovsky and defenseman Patrick McCarron to promotions to the Grand Rapids Griffins, Toledo’s AHL affiliate.

Machovsky, 24, has appeared in two games with the Walleye. He has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

McCarron, 23, tallied two goals and two assists in 11 games with the Walleye.
