UT baseball coach Mee signs three-year contract

The University of Toledo and baseball coach Cory Mee have agreed to a new three-year contract that will keep him at the school through the 2013 season, athletic director Mike O'Brien said.

According to a copy of the contract that The Blade obtained Tuesday following an open records request, Mee will be paid an annual base salary of $63,654, plus performance incentives and use of a university-issued car.

Mee has led the Rockets since 2004 and has a 163-211 career record at UT.

UT has earned a spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament in three of the last four seasons, and two years ago, the Rockets advanced to the MAC championship game.

In 2010, the Rockets experienced one of their best seasons in school history, finishing 34-22 overall and 19-8 in the MAC's West Division. UT registered its first 30-win season since 1999, and the Rockets' 34 wins tied for second-most in school history.

"I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity I have been given here by Mike O'Brien to lead the baseball program," said Mee, who ranks third in school history with 163 career wins. "Over the past seven years, it has been a great experience to see the development of our program. I've had some great coaches and players who helped get our program headed in the right direction, but we know there is much more to accomplish. I'm very excited about our future."

Mee and the Rockets return 21 letterwinners in 2011, including five position starters. Toledo opens its season on Feb. 18 in Cary, N.C. against Canisius.
