Parties to open 3 new exhibits in Toledo, B.G.

Exhibit openings:

● The Art Supply Depo will host a party of color, art, aloha, and champagne from 6 to 9 tonight, featuring ceramics by Jules Webster and drawings by Nikki Jean Eggerstorfer, who’s heading for Hawaii. ● An opening reception for 22 artists showing a wide variety of goods suitable for holiday gifts will be 8 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at Sam B's restaurant, 163 S. Main St., Bowling Green. Organized by Prizm Creative Community, it includes glass by Brien Strancar, paintings by Vanessa Snyder, felt by Ann Kniep, and jewelry, ceramics, photography, and paintings by many others. ● A 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday reception for the 110th Athena Art Society exhibition will be at the University of Toledo’s Center for Visual Arts, 620 Grove Place, adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art. It will continue through Nov. 8. Information: 419-530-8300 and athenaartsociety.org.

● Israel at 65: A Celebration of Art will be on view from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, and 20 in the gallery at B'nai Israel, 6525 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania. More than 1,000 original paintings, lithographs, and etchings by 100 artists from Israel and around the world will be sold at prices ranging from $80 to $5,000. ● Art in the Barn, a live auction of artwork, will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Serenity Farm Equestrian Center, 21870 Lemoyne Rd., Luckey. Admission is $15. Information: 419-833-1308.

● Calls for artists:

● Video submissions of performance, animation, stop motion, and more are sought for an Experimental Video Festival. Deadline is Oct. 25. Accepted videos will be screened the evenings of Nov. 9 and 16 in Launch Pad Cooperative, an artist-run gallery. There is no submission fee. ● A contest to design a mural at the Maplewood Marketplace, 5703 Main St. in Sylvania, has a deadline of Nov. 30. It’s the back wall of this city-owned building. The design should embody the spirit of downtown Sylvania and/​or the adjoining Historical Village. Application fee is $10. The winning design will receive $250. ● Clearance Sale (Jerry Gray’s Solo Exhibition), will be 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 18 at Bozarts llc., 151 S. St. Clair St. Gray will fill walls, tables, and racks with his work. Information: 419-464-5785.

● Friday at the Toledo Museum of Art, David Skaggs, a retired Bowling Green State University history professor, will discuss the consequences of the pivotal Battle of Lake Erie. His 7:30 p.m. talk in the Little Theater is part of the activities surrounding the Perry's Victory: The Battle of Lake Erie exhibit that runs until Nov. 10.

Also at the museum, Ebb & Flow: Cross-Cultural Prints, will open Friday in the Works on Paper Gallery and run until Jan. 5. It explores the global influence of Japanese printmaking in the 20th century and is related to the Fresh Impressions: Early Modern Japanese Prints show in the Canaday Gallery through Jan. 1.

● Fang-Tastic Art: A Halloween Costume Art Event will be 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 17 featuring art by more than 25 creatives and food, music, drinks, door prizes, and a 50/​50 drawing. Costumes are encouraged, and the exhibit runs through Nov. 9 in the Gallery in the Davis Building, 118 10th St.

● The ninth annual Collingwood Arts Center Halloween Group Shoot will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 19. It is an inexpensive way to network and build a portfolio and is geared for people 18 and older who are models, photographers, makeup artists, stylists, videographers, and vendors. ● Drop-In-And-Create! invites women to paint or create in other ways at no cost, 5 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of October, November, and December. ● The Warner Bros. Superstars: A Looney Tunes “Top Ten” Celebration, a talk by animation historian Jerry Beck (The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes Cartoons) will focus on how Warner Bros. Studios created its signature animated characters and short films in the 1940s and 1950s, at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Detroit Institute of Arts. He’ll also discuss the intertwined careers of the animators. Admission is $5.

At 3 p.m. Nov. 2, Leslie Iwerks, a documentary film producer and granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, designer of Mickey Mouse, will speak about the evolution of animation from the 1920s through computer animation. Tickets are $5.

The talks are in conjunction with the exhibit Watch Me Move, which lays out the history of animation dating back more than a century, and features more than 100 film clips depicting an array of animation techniques.
