Photographers to show work at 2-night exhibit

    Photos by longtime members of the Collingwood Art Center’s Photography Collective are featured in a two-night exhibit that will have receptions Friday and Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. in the center, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. Information: boydhambleton@gmail.com and 567-454-0922.

    ● Call for artists: Midnight Saturday is the deadline for the Tree City Film Festival, organized for the second year by the Sylvania Arts Commission. Applicants will begin the 50-hour short-shoot challenge March 21 and continue for 50 hours. Cash prizes will be awarded. Applications are at sylvaniaarts.org/​tree-city-film-festival. Entries will be screened for the public on April 26.

    ● New paintings by Harold Roe, Carol Pletz, and Rayma Adkisson are at Fenwick Gallery, 3433 W. Alexis Rd. Information: 419-475-1651.

    ● Deadline is March 21 for people aged 14 through 18 to apply for this summer’s Young Artists At Work program, operated by the Arts Commission. They’ll be paid to learn about and make art from June 23 to Aug. 1. Download applications from theartscommission.org or call 419-254-2787.

    ● At the Toledo Museum of Art:

    ● Andre Le Notre, who transformed formal gardens of France’s richest people in the 1600s, is the subject of a talk at 6 tonight in the Peristyle. Speaking is Eric Haskell of Scripps College.

    ● A Day in the Life of the Tuileries Garden will be discussed at 7 p.m. March 21 in the Great Gallery by Richard Putney, co-curator of The Art of the Louvre’s Tuileries Garden show.

    ● Tickets are available for 9 a.m. to noon demonstrations March 26, 27, and 28 by master glass maker Lino Tagliapietra, a guest artist, in the Glass Pavilion Hot Shop. Tickets are $30 at 419-255-8000 ext. 7448 and at museum information desks. Tagliapietra will give a free demo from 10 a.m. to noon March 29.

    ● Briefcases, rattlesnakes, and the psychosexual are the subjects of dozens of films screened in the University of Toledo’s Aspiring Filmmakers’ Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Center for Performing Arts on main campus. Films were selected by an eight-member panel, and range in length from less than one minute to nearly 10 minutes. Tickets are $5; $3 for students and people 60 and older.

    ● An art and memorabilia auction will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday to raise money to combat human trafficking. Location is the Monroe Bank & Trust Headquarters, 102 E. Front St., Monroe. Tickets, $35, include refreshments. Art pieces will range from $45 to more than $1,000. It’s organized by Caring Alternatives Inc. Information: info@caringalternatives.com.

    ● The Ohio Watercolor Society’s 36th Annual Juried Travel Exhibition can be seen at the Wassenburg Art Center through March 30. Included are 40 paintings that were selected by a juror for this show that travels the state. Northwest Ohioans whose works are included are Martin Chappuies and Allen Hutton of Toledo and John Trumbull of Sylvania. 

    The Wassenburg center is at 643 S. Washington St. in Van Wert. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Information: 419-238-6837 and ohiowatercolorsociety.com.

    ● Best of show at the Findlay Art League’s Photo 32 exhibit went to Lisa Ruggiero-Wawrzyniak. The show continues through March 28. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The gallery is at 117 W. Crawford St. in Findlay. Information: findlayartleague.com.
