Titans’ Browns, Irish’s Delp finish strong at state tourney

Brothers Kevin and Ryan Brown of St. John’s Jesuit finished second in doubles at the Division I state tennis tournament.

In the championship match, the Browns fell 6-3, 6-3 to Cincinnati Sycamore's Nakul Narendran and Mustafa Ahmad.

Kevin, a junior, and Ryan, a senior, edged Mason’s Nadim Boulos and Sean Reid 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.

St. John’s reached the final four of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team state tournament for the 10th straight year but lost to Upper Arlington in the semifinals.

The Titans (19-3) defeated Massillon Jackson 3-0 in the consolation finals to finish third.

St. John’s also won its third straight Three Rivers Athletic Conference title.

Central Catholic senior Dugan Delp won his third consecutive TRAC No. 1 singles titles and advanced to state for a third consecutive time, where he finished in fourth place.

Delp won the district title by knocking off Findlay junior Reid Teatsorth 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

In Division II, Ottawa Hills sophomore Ryan Simon and junior Matt Gargas were district runners-up to advance to state.

In the Northern Lakes League, Southview repeated as team champion and Perrysburg’s Troy Weider won the No. 1 singles title.
