BG’s Bayer to play in East-West Shrine Game

Plus: Falcons still have 6,000 tickets remaining for bowl game in Detroit

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University's Alex Bayer has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game, a postseason college all-star game.

Bayer, a senior tight end, will be the first Falcon to play in the game since Freddie Barnes played in the contest in 2010.

This year's East-West Shrine Game will be played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 18. The game will kick off at 4 p.m. and will be televised by the NFL Network.

This season Bayer was named All-Mid-American Conference third team for the second year in a row. He caught 34 passes for 536 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games, ranking second on the BG team in all three categories.

Tickets selling well

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University athletics ticket office announced Tuesday that the school has sold more than 6,000 tickets for the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

The school still has tickets for the bowl, which will take place Thursday, Dec. 26. The 10-3 Falcons will face 6-6 Pitt at Ford Field in Detroit.

BGSU has also announced that eight fan buses have been filled for the game. Limited seating is still available on the fan buses at a price of $25 for nonmembers and $15 for Falcon Club members. Those prices do not include a ticket.

Tickets are available by calling 877-BGSU TICKET or online at BGSUFalcons.com. Tickets also are being sold at the Stroh Center during regular business hours. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $5 for BGSU students and will be sold until noon on Dec. 23. After that date, tickets will be sold only at Ford Field at a higher price.
