GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Bowling Green State University suffered a 4-0 loss to Minnesota State in the semifinals of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s “Final Five” tournament at Van Andel Arena.

The loss marked just the third time the Falcons, who finished 18-15-6, were shut out this season. Minnesota State also posted a 1-0 overtime win over BG on Nov. 9, and third-ranked Boston College beat the Falcons 5-0.

The Mavericks got goals from Chase Grant and Bryce Gervais in the second period – Gervais scored short-handed – and Johnny McInnis and Matt Leitner in the third, with Leitner scoring an empty-netter.

Minnesota State (25-13-1), which is ranked 15th in Division I in the most-recent national poll, advances to the WCHA finals Saturday against the Ferris State-Alaska Anchorage winner.

Bowling Green goaltender Tommy Burke finished with 32 saves, while the Mavericks’ Cole Huggins stopped all 36 shots he faced.
