BOWLING GREEN — At least one seat in Doyt Perry Stadium will always be empty.

Bowling Green State University plans to designate a seat in its football stadium to honor military personnel who have been declared missing in action and for current or former prisoners of war.

A ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday on the stadium’s west side before BGSU’s game against Virginia Military Institute.

The seat will be in Section 16 and will remain permanently unoccupied.

It is one of five chairs BGSU will provide as part of the POW/MIA Chair of Honor effort, a program of the nonprofit organization Rolling Thunder. Other honorary chairs will be located at the Stroh Center and the Ice Arena. Two mobile chairs will travel to athletic contests.

The dedication event resulted from a donation by BGSU alumnus and retired Marine Corps Col. Ted Jenkins and the work of the university’s veterans alumni committee.
