Golf outings can be great networking tools and a chance to get to know someone a bit better. If they cheat on the golf course, will they cheat in other situations? If they keep their golf equipment tidy, chances are their desks are tidy, too. If they overreact on the golf course, what does that say about them? Most importantly, golf outings are a chance to have fun and to raise money for charity.

The Fall Classic benefiting Mom’s House Sept. 16 at Highland Meadows Golf Club netted about $12,000.

Mom’s House, founded in 1993, assists young single parents to become educated and to be effective parents. Many area celebrities joined the fun that included golf and dinner with an auction.

Highland Meadows Golf Club chipped in for charity: The Rally for the Cure golf event in July netted almost $12,000 and The Arnold Palmer Prostate Cancer Foundation reaped $980. Then on Sept. 9 the Red Tee Challenge for Multiple Sclerosis netted $3,160.

The 16th annual George Mancy Memorial Golf Outing was Aug. 26 at Highland Meadows Golf Course to benefit the Anne Grady Center. Kacey Finnegan won for the longest woman’s drive and Toby Hafner had the longest man’s drive. Dinner followed at Mancy’s Italian with John Mancy, Sr., George’s twin brother.

The event netted about $16,000.

The 10th annual Sal’s Pal’s Charity Golf Outing was Aug. 25 at Fallen Timbers Fairways. It raised $9,000.

Harbor Night Golf on Aug. 23 at Bedford Hills Golf Course netted $21,400 and a heap of fun with dinner provided by Texas Roadhouse. 

Ian's Memorial Tournament on Aug. 18 at Sugar Creek Golf Course in Elmore raised $3,000. The fourth annual event is for a scholarship fund for an Ohio State Universitybound student with an interest in the Study Abroad Program. The tournament is named for Ian Huffman, who died in 2010 in an automobile accident. Ian was the son of John and Maureen Huffman.

New TCC Susan Kelly, Jo-Ellen Apgar and Nancy Metzger and guest play in the Ladies Guest Day.

Aurora House Golf Classic presented by Cousino Harris Disaster Kleenup on Aug. 12 at Toledo Country Club raised $16,000. Members of the winning team were Rusty Wilke, Keith Russeau, Bill Scovell, and Chris Fox.

East Toledo Family Center’s Starboard Side Golf Classic presented by ProMedica Bay Park Hospital and Health Management Solutions on Aug. 9 at Chippewa Golf Club raised nearly $6,500 for the Hook A Kid on Golf program.

The first-place team was Bollin Label Systems with a round that was 15 under par. 

The Toledo Area Human Resource Association Golf Outing on Aug. 9 at Bedford Hills Golf Club was extra special for Don Decker.

He made a hole in one, and the prize was a VW Jetta from Ed Schmidt in Perrysburg.

The event raised nearly $9,000 for college scholarships for students who are pursuing a degree in human resources, said event chairman Jill Kopanis.

A big announcement was made: the event has been renamed the Jim Vassar Memorial Golf Outing, in honor of Mr. Vassar, who passed away this summer.

The second annual Les Stevens Memorial Golf Outing to benefit cardiothoracic research at the University of Toledo Medical Center was Aug. 3 at Tom Blanchard’s Tanglewood Golf Club in Perrysburg. The winners included Denny Kusner, John Gallagher, Tom Hennessey, and James Helkey. The outing raised more than $1,500.

Springfield Schools Foundation Tee It Up for Classroom Technology presented by Health Management Solutions Inc. on Aug. 2 at Stone Oak Country Club raised $14,000.

The fifth annual Gridiron Classic Falcon Football Golf Outing on July 22 at Catawba Island Club was a day of golf, great food, and fun overlooking Lake Erie. Emcee was Bowling Green State University Falcon great Mark Miller. Former BGSU head football coach Gary Blackney was the guest speaker. A live auction was conducted by Van Wright.

The estimated $40,000 netted supports the football program and recruiting budget, said football coach Dave Clawson.

The event organizers: Dan Trombley (Les Stevens' stepson) and Matt Sattler (Les Stevens' son-in-law).

Golfing for Graham’s Foundation on July 14 at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green netted about $10,000. Among the players was KIA Classic Pre Qualifier, 2011 California Women’s Amateur Championship runner-up Petra Cole.

St. John's Jesuit High School’s 31st annual Alumni Golf Outing on July 20 was a reunion of friends as they played at South Toledo Golf Club and Valleywood Golf Club. In addition, $20,000 was raised for the school’s tuition assistance fund.

Little Sister’s of the Poor Golf Outing on July 12 at Eagles Landing netted $26,000.

Several golf outings were just for fun: 

Stone Oak Country Club’s “Into the Wild” on Aug. 6 was the ladies 18-hole league annual invitational. The group feasted on elephant ears, bearclaws, and “jungle juice,” then hit the fairways where frozen chocolate-dipped bananas were served at the break.

Afterward, Toledo Zoo keeper Josh Minor introduced the gals to a few wild animals before they dined.

Winners were Maryann Laritz, Sallee Burns, Marianne Carpenter, and Karen Uebelhart.

Event chairmen were Claire Blythe, Sue Cardone, Mary Faust, Jole Harmon, and Deb Lantz.

Godfather Golf Ladies 18 Holer Pink Day at Toledo Country Club earlier in the summer was just for fun, too.

Several business groups had golf outings: 

The sixth EPIC Toledo Leadership Golf Outing was June 21 at Belmont Country Club.

Each foursome was selected at random and featured at least one business or community leader for a scramble with EPIC members.

The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing presented by Hollywood Casino Toledo on Sept. 9 at Stone Oak Country Club was a fun day in spite of the rainy weather.

The Perrysburg Area Chamber of Commerce golf scramble on July 17 at Riverby Hills Golf Course was fun, thanks to event chairman Matt Skotynsky.

Waterville Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf outing sponsored by Yark Chevrolet on June 21 at Riverby Hills Golf Club was a day of networking.
