Author James Tobin to discuss his book on FDR at University of Toledo

James Tobin will dis­cuss his book, The Man He Be­came: How FDR De­fied Po­lio to Win the Pres­i­dency (Si­mon & Schus­ter, 2013), at 3 p.m. today in the Ward M. Can­a­day Center for Spe­cial Col­lec­tions on the fifth floor of the Univer­sity of Toledo’s Carl­son Li­brary.

The free, pub­lic talk will be fol­lowed by a book sign­ing and re­cep­tion. Copies of the book will be for sale at the event.

Tobin won the Na­tional Book Crit­ics Cir­cle Award for his pre­vi­ous book, Ernie Pyle’s War. In his new book, he ex­am­ines how FDR used his bat­tle with po­lio to help win the pres­i­dency in 1932.
