The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Monday released its fall line-up of best-selling female authors for the 20th season of the Authors! Authors! series sponsored by The Blade.

Cokie Roberts, an NPR news analyst and ABC commentator, will kick off the speaker series at the Stranahan Theater on Sept. 3. Named a “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress, she has published chart-topping books on women’s roles in American history, including Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation and We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters.

Taking a turn toward international events, Marjane Satrapi will discuss what made her the acclaimed author of Persepolis, a graphic novel about life in Iran after the Islamic revolution. Speaking at the main library’s McMaster Center on Oct. 22, she is also scheduled to talk about her experience as a director of the screen adaptation of the autobiographical book and of the upcoming comedy The Voices, starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick.

Elizabeth Gilbert, whose Eat, Pray, Love remained a New York Times best-seller for 200 weeks, will cap off the series on Nov. 19 at the Stranahan. A winner of the Pushcart Prize, and a finalist for the National Book Award and National Book Critic’s Circle Award, she has authored many popular nonfiction works, including The Signature of All Things, The Last American Man, and Pilgrims.

“They’re all really ... strong female writers who have found unique channels for their voices,” said Ben Malczewski, the library’s humanities department manager.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for students, and will be available at all libraries beginning Aug. 1.
