BG women crushed by Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State women’s basketball team suffered an 82-41 loss to Ball State in a Mid-American Conference contest at BSU’s Worthen Arena Wednesday.

The Falcons were hammered 45-13 in the first half and never recovered, falling to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in MAC play.

While 10 different players scored for BG, none finished in double figures. Freshmen Madisen Parker and Kennedy Williams led the way with seven points each.

Moriah Monaco finished with 23 points to lead Ball State (16-3, 5-3 MAC), which saw nine different players score. Carmen Grande nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine assists for the Cardinals, while Frannie Frazier added 10 points.

The game was tied at 5-5 with 5:26 left in the first quarter before Ball State went on a 10-2 run that helped them build a 20-9 lead after one period.

Then the Cardinals blew out BG in the first 8:29 of the second quarter. BSU scored 21 straight points, making 7-of-11 field goals – including all three of its 3-pointers – while the Falcons missed all 13 shots they took, including nine misses on 3’s, to go along with four turnovers.

Ball State, which already led by 32 points at halftime, scored the first nine points of the third quarter and led by as many as 43 points in that period before taking a 64-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Bowling Green came no closer than 36 points in the second half, while the Cardinals led by as many as 42 before settling on the 41-point victory.

The Falcons return home to host their arch-rivals, the University of Toledo, at the Stroh Center Saturday in a 2 p.m. start.
